Seatbelt crackdown on motorists in part of Leicester

  • Published

Police are carrying out a crackdown on drivers not wearing seatbelts in Leicester.

Officers will be stopping offending drivers in the St Georges Retail Park area of the city on Friday.

The motorists will then be offered the choice of completing a seatbelt awareness session as an alternative to prosecution.

The sessions involve being shown a short road safety video and being given advice on the potential dangers.

Insp Viv Brenchley said: "Decades of research and development have proven that seatbelts save lives."

Police stopped 45 drivers in a similar initiative in the Fosse Road South area of Leicester on Wednesday.
