Rescuers searching for a missing pensioner have found a body in Leicestershire woodland.

The 80-year-old man went missing from his home on Sunday, and police later found his car near Melton Mowbray.

Derby Mountain Rescue Team and the Search and Rescue Dogs Association (SARDA) were called in when thick fog began to hamper the operation.

A rescue dog found the body, which has yet to be identified, on Monday. The death is not thought to be suspicious.

The discovery is understood to have been made in the Old Dalby area in the early hours.

Leicestershire Police said it would not be releasing details about the missing man as the matter had now been passed to the coroner.

Derby Mountain Rescue Team, which covers Leicestershire as well as Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire, is often called out to help police carry out searches in rural terrain.
