Boys rescued from frozen lake in Braunstone Park

Fire crews rescued two boys after they became stranded on an island in the middle of a frozen lake in Leicester.

Crews were called out to Braunstone Park on Sunday morning.

They used an inflatable rescue path to reach the two boys who were then fitted with jackets and taken to safety.

Chris Bilby, of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, urged the public to ensure children and dogs stayed away from frozen water.

He said: "Whilst Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are fully equipped to deal with incidents of this nature, we would always prefer to prevent these situations from occurring.

"The frozen water might look appealing and fun but the ice is likely to be very thin and just a few minutes in such cold water could be enough to kill someone."
