Thieves steal Mountsorrel pub's cigarette machine

A machine containing "hundreds of pounds of cigarettes" has been stolen from a Leicestershire pub, police said.

Sometime between 2200 GMT on Christmas Eve and 0100 GMT on Christmas Day, thieves took the machine from a pub on Leicester Road in Mountsorrel.

Various brands of cigarettes were in the machine which was stolen from a back room in the pub.

Pc Wesley Nelson from Leicestershire Police said someone must have seen the machine being carried out of the pub.

"The pub was very busy during the evening of Christmas Eve," said Pc Nelson.

"The machine is about 4ft (1.2m) high and someone must have noticed it being carried out of the pub.

"I am also very keen to speak to anyone who has been approached by someone selling cigarettes in unusual circumstances," he added.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Leicestershire Police.
