Leicester leisure centres open after revamp

Two leisure centres in Leicester are set to reopen after undergoing extensive improvements.

New Parks Leisure Centre reopened on Saturday morning with a new gym and on Sunday, Cossington Street Sports Centre will show off a refurbished pool area.

Other improvements include new GP referral rooms for people who need to exercise under doctor's orders.

The works are part of a £308,000 improvement scheme from Labour-run Leicester City Council.

Councillor Robert Wann, the city council's cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: "The leisure centres in the city attract more than two million visits each year and are an important service to Leicester's communities.

"It is hoped these customers and many more, like what they see when we reopen."

Plans are now being drawn up to refurbish the gyms at Cossington Street and Spence Street leisure centres.
