A 12-year-old boy was injured when he was struck by a police car in Leicester.

The child was on Aikman Avenue, in the New Park area, shortly before 1530 GMT on Tuesday when he was hit.

He was taken to hospital with head and arm injuries but these were not serious. The police driver was unhurt but left "shaken".

A police spokesman said the vehicle was not responding to an emergency call at the time.

They added that after making inquiries, the matter would not be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
