Passenger killed in A47 crash in Leicestershire

A man in his 40s has been killed in a collision involving a lorry, a caravan and two cars on the A47 in Leicestershire.

The accident happened at East Norton at about 2200 BST on Sunday.

The crash involved a Ford Mondeo estate, which was towing a caravan, a Renault Megane and a DAF lorry.

One of the two passengers in the Renault suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, emergency crews said.

'Critical condition'

The female driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Her condition has been described as stable.

The other passenger in the Renault received minor injuries and remains in hospital.

The male driver and female passenger of the Ford Mondeo are in a critical condition in hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The road was closed for more than nine hours while police examined the scene.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
