Arrests in Leicestershire Police violent crime operation

Thirty-four people have been arrested in Leicestershire as part of a police operation to tackle violent crime.

The arrests were made across the county on Thursday for offences ranging from common assault to causing grievous bodily harm.

Those arrested were aged between 14 and 58.

Officers also used airport-style knife arches in Hinckley, Loughborough and Leicester city centre to check for people carrying weapons.

Ch Insp Adam Streets said: "We have run this operation to send out the message that violent crime remains an important priority for the force."
