Arrests after gang steals Leicester taxis

Four teenagers have been arrested after two Leicester private-hire cab drivers were threatened with weapons and had their vehicles taken.

In two incidents on 15 and 16 January, the victims picked up passengers and were then forced out of their cars.

Both vehicles have been recovered along with a gun believed to have been used in the first robbery.

The male suspects, two aged 16 and two aged 17, are currently in police custody.

Neither of the victims was injured but both were left badly shaken, officers said.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

They added they would be talking to other private-hire cab drivers to make them aware of what had happened and offer security and safety advice.
