Police appeal over attempted Leicester cash box robbery

Police in Leicester have released more information about an attempted cash-in-transit robbery which took place near a bank.

A security guard making a cash delivery was approached on 27 January at about 12:30 GMT by a man who demanded money.

The guard managed to run into the Yorkshire Bank on Horsefair Street but the man followed and attacked him.

He smashed a glass door at the bank and ran off empty-handed. The guard was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

'Extremely distressing'

Leicestershire Police said the man was seen running towards a dark-coloured people carrier parked near the junction of Bowling Green and Horsefair Street.

Det Con Michelle Bigg said: "This was an extremely distressing incident for the victim, staff at the bank and members of the public who were in the area at the time.

"The incident took place in broad daylight in the middle of the day and was witnessed by a number of people.

"We would urge anyone in the area and who hasn't yet spoken to the police to come forward."
