Van driver 'lucky' after brick thrown from Leicestershire bridge

Police said it was lucky nobody was killed or injured after a van was hit by a brick thrown from a footbridge on the M1 in Leicestershire.

The incident happened near junction 21 on the northbound carriageway at 16:55 GMT on Monday.

Police said the driver of the van swerved to avoid other drivers after the brick hit the vehicle.

Officers were deployed to the bridge but the suspect, described as white and aged about 16, had fled.

'Irresponsible behaviour'

The incident follows reports of objects thrown from a footbridge over the A46 in Anstey in recent months.

PC Ady Lloyd said: "These actions are extremely dangerous and could lead to someone being injured and even killed.

"We would appeal to those who are committing these crimes to think about what they are doing.

"How would they feel if their family or friends was hurt as a result of someone's irresponsible behaviour."
