A "sophisticated" cannabis farm with more than 3,000 plants has been discovered by police in Leicestershire.

Officers found hydroponics equipment and a living quarters hidden inside a wooden shed within a disused factory on an industrial estate in Hinckley.

Leicestershire Police said the plants could have yielded cannabis with a total street value of £3m.

No-one was found but police said they expected arrests to follow.

The operation was discovered at the Harrowbrook Industrial Estate when a member of the public reported a suspected burglary after spotting a side door had been left open.

Police said each of the 3,000 plants inside could have produced cannabis with a street value of about £1,000.

Insp Rich Ward said: "After we'd made the premises safe we sent in our forensic teams.

"We're absolutely confident we will be making arrests in the next few weeks as a result of what we found in there."
