Boy, 8, dies after road collision in Leicester

An eight-year-old boy has died following a road collision in Leicester.

The accident happened at about 22:50 BST on Tuesday, in Gipsy Lane, and involved a silver and blue Smart car.

Abhay Jadeja, from Leicester, was a passenger in the back-seat of the car. He died at the Queen's Medical Centre, in Nottingham, on Wednesday morning.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

The driver of the car received minor injuries and was discharged from the Leicester Royal Infirmary, following treatment.

The front-seat passenger in the vehicle received serious injuries and is still being treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. His condition has been described as stable.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
