Delays after lorry fire closes M1 in Leicestershire

Drivers faced long delays along a stretch of the M1 in Leicestershire after the motorway was closed due to a lorry fire.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue crews were called to the northbound carriageway of the M1, near junction 21, at about 11:45 BST.

The motorway was closed in both directions for about an hour.

People in the area tweeted to say they had heard a large explosion near the Meridian Business Park in Leicester.

There were no reports of any injuries, a fire service spokeswoman said.
