Leicester bike paramedic trial could be extended

A pilot scheme featuring paramedics on bikes responding to emergencies in Leicester city centre could be extended to Derby, Nottingham and Lincoln.

The three medics have been patrolling a 1.5 mile (2.4km) radius around the city's Clock Tower since September.

Their kit includes a defibrillator, pain-relieving gas, diagnostic equipment and dressings.

The team has responded to an average of six calls a day since the pilot started.

East Midlands Ambulance Service will now review the pilot before deciding whether to roll it out to other cities in the region.
