UKIP Leicester candidate suspended from party

A UK Independence Party candidate in the Leicestershire county council elections, has been suspended from the party.

Chris Scotton had been UKIP's hopeful in the Syston Ridgeway seat.

He is being investigated for activity on the social network site Facebook, in 2010.

It is now too late to remove his name from the ballot, so he will have to stand as an independent should he win, while the investigation continues.

UKIP, which has seen support in opinion polls growing ahead of the 2 May elections, admitted "teething problems" with its organisation.
