A 15-year-old Bulgarian girl who went missing in Leicester for 12 days has been found safe, police said.

Ana Simeonova was taken to a police station on Saturday evening by a member of the public who had seen a poster appealing for information about her.

A 29-year-old man arrested in connection with her disappearance remains on police bail.

Ms Simeonova, who cannot read or write English, arrived in Leicester from Poland five weeks ago.

Insp Simon Preston said: "We really do appreciate the public's understanding whilst we have carried out lots of enquiries in and around the city at all times of day and night.

"We understand that our traffic checks, knocking on people's doors and visits to local businesses may have caused some inconvenience but our number one priority was to try and find Ana safe and well and as quickly as possible.

"We will now spend some time talking to Ana to find out what happened over the past 10 days," he added.

Ms Simeonova had last been seen in the Lee Circle area on 25 March.
