Two teenage girls who were killed in a crash between a car and a bus have been named by police.

Anna Haefeli, 18, and Anastasia Besedovska, 17, died at the scene in Tickencote, Rutland, on Friday.

They were both pupils at nearby Oakham School. The driver and eight passengers in the bus sustained superficial injuries.

Leicestershire Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened on Empingham Lane at about 13:25 GMT.

Det Con Pete Davies said the girls were in a blue Peugeot 206 travelling along the lane towards Empingham when the crash happened.

The bus was travelling in the opposite direction towards Tickencote.

In a statement, the girls' head teacher Nigel Lashbrook said: "The school community is extremely upset by the tragic loss of two such wonderful young adults.

"The thoughts and prayers of all of us are with Anna and Anastasia's families and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

"Both girls were well loved within our school community. Anna had a great sense of humour and lit up the lives of those around her. Anastasia radiated warmth and serenity on virtually every day of her school life."
