Funds donated for dumped Addlethorpe baby's funeral

A local businessman has donated money so that a funeral for a newborn baby who was found dead at a recycling centre in Lincolnshire can be held.

The body was found at the Greenstar Recycling Plant in Addlethorpe, near Skegness, on 15 October last year.

The funeral is expected to be held at St Nicholas' Church in Addlethorpe on 27 July.

Lincolnshire Police said the baby's mother had still not been traced and urged her to come forward.

'Final opportunity'

Det Ch Insp Stuart Gibbon said: "This has been a difficult and sensitive case and, after many months of exhaustive enquiries, it is time for this baby to rest in peace.

"The mother must have suffered a great deal of anguish since last October and this is a final opportunity for her to come forward and have the chance to say goodbye to her son."

Officers have appealed for anyone with information on the mother's whereabouts to come forward.

A worker checking for glass in material brought to the site for recycling discovered the body wrapped in a heavily bloodstained cloth.

An examination found the baby was not stillborn.
