Lincoln blue badge parking charge discount approved

Discounted parking fees for drivers with disability badges in Lincoln have been approved.

The city council has voted for a system where blue badge holders get one hour free parking for every hour paid for.

Last year the authority scrapped free parking for the disabled, hoping to save £100,000 a year, but decided to reconsider after a legal challenge.

The changes are due to come in by the end of October once signage has been updated.

Councillor Marc Jones, portfolio holder for planning policy and regeneration at the City of Lincoln Council, said: "Following the consultation, we have an in-depth picture of how a wide section of our service users feel about charges for blue badge holders.

"The executive looked at this evidence and decided that one hour free parking for every hour purchased for blue badge holders was a good way to balance the need to generate income for the authority, and the needs of disabled drivers."
