Alert over series of metal thefts in West Lindsey

Metal thefts from private and public areas in Lincolnshire have prompted a warning from a council and police.

Lead from roofs, metal gates, fencing and household appliances, both old and in use, have been taken, said West Lindsey District Council.

Drain covers have also been stolen, leaving dangerous holes in roads and pavements, officials added.

The police and council have asked people to secure their property and report any suspicious behaviour.

Patrick Hodgson, community safety & family intervention manager at the council, said: "Opportunist thieves are known to tour rural areas, housing estates and residential areas looking for items to take from gardens.

"Residents need to be vigilant and report any type of suspicious behaviour to either the police or the West Lindsey District Council Community Safety Unit."
