Warning over thefts from churches in Horncastle

Police have issued a warning after thieves targeted three village churches in Lincolnshire.

Officers believe thieves struck at three churches in the Horncastle area on Sunday.

The churches affected were St Margaret's Church in Somersby, All Saints Church in Greetham and St Margaret's Church in Bag Enderby.

Offertory boxes were broken into and small amounts of cash were stolen from each church.

Pc Nic Hanson said: "These offenders have stooped particularly low stealing from a church.

"The buildings were open at the time for the benefit of the community so that visitors could call in to worship or simply to appreciate and admire the heritage.

"For the thieves to take advantage of that trust in this way is quite despicable."

Anyone with information on the thefts is urged to contact police.
