The boss of a Lincolnshire fish factory where maggots and rats were found has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Lincoln Crown Court had been told Allan Rich Seafoods at Brookenby was the worst case an inspector had seen.

Managing director Roland Saldanha, 69, from south east London, was convicted of 10 food hygiene breaches while the company was convicted of 11.

His 56-day sentence was suspended for 12 months with £10,000 costs. The firm was fined £10,000 with £30,000 costs.

The factory, which produced ready meals, fish pies and soup sold for several leading supermarkets, was inspected in 2008.

Saldanha was cleared of four charges and Allan Rich Seafoods was cleared of three.

Both have appealed against their convictions.
