Passers-by in a Lincolnshire town have been praised by police for their quick-thinking which prevented a woman from being robbed.

A 56-year-old woman was using a cash machine in Boston Market Place at about 0800 GMT on Thursday when a man tried to rob her.

Several people passing at the time of the attempted robbery restrained the man until police arrived.

A 27-year-old man is due to be questioned by police.

Ch Insp Phil Vickers, of Lincolnshire Police, said: "Several passers-by came to the rescue of the victim, preventing the robbery from taking place and enabling officers to make a swift arrest.

"Their intervention was very community-spirited and I would like to thank them for their actions."
