Police treat Lincoln warehouse fire as suspicious

A fire at a disused carpet warehouse in Lincoln from which two girls were rescued is being treated as arson.

Five crews were called out to the blaze on Wragby Road at about 0100 GMT on Thursday.

The fire took several hours to put out and two rescued 15-year-olds were taken to hospital for treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation.

A police spokesman said the fire was being treated as arson and an investigation was under way.

Andy Whitfield, from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: "When we got to the warehouse, there was smoke billowing out of every area.

"With there being two persons already in the warehouse, we couldn't take it for granted that the building was clear so we had to search the entire building and then put the fire out."
