Stranger at Grantham school prompts warning

A warning has been issued after a man approached children at a Lincolnshire primary school.

At 1130 GMT on Monday, a man spoke to three children through the fence at Spitalgate Primary School, in Grantham.

He asked if they would like to go with him but then walked away in the direction of Shaw Road.

Police said they were putting on extra patrols and would be advising schools in the area, but asked anyone with information to contact them.

The suspect is described as white, middle aged and balding wearing a black coat and gloves and woolly hat and blue jeans. He was smoking at the time.

Insp James Trafford said: "Whilst I would like to reassure parents and the public in general that this is an isolated incident, an investigation is under way with the involvement of CID at Grantham.

"Additional patrols and visits to schools in the Grantham area are also taking place with the message to children being not to talk to or approach strangers."
