Lincoln Cathedral skills placements offered

Heritage skills placements are being offered by the authorities at Lincoln Cathedral.
Bursaries to learn stonemasonry, joinery and lead work have been organised by the county council in partnership with the cathedral.
A £500,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will fund nine 18-month placements, along with a heritage skills centre in the castle.
Organisers said the scheme would help both the cathedral and the craftsmen.
Cathedral officials said they would prefer applicants with some previous, though not necessarily heritage-related, experience.
Works manager at the cathedral Carol Heidschuster said: "There is a real shortage of these sort of skills.
"This sort of mentoring is how the skills have been passed down through the centuries and this is also a way of giving something back to the region."
The placements will count towards an NVQ. The closing date for the first three places is 14 March.
