Skegness abattoir calls in administrators after 'cash flow issues'

A Lincolnshire abattoir has gone into administration, putting 26 jobs at risk.

Administrators SFP said they were in discussion with various parties for the sale of Lincolnshire Prime Meat Company, based in Skegness.

The multi-species abattoir, which reopened under new management in 2010, has run into financial difficulties and has debts of £1.4m.

The business handled up to 1,600 animals a week.

Simon Plant, from SFP, said "Despite working with a number of significant customers and having a substantial turnover, Lincolnshire Prime Meat Company was unable to continue trading after under-financing led to cash flow issues.

"We are currently in discussions with various interested parties for a sale of the business and assets."

The company has so far been unavailable for comment.
