Lincolnshire motorists warned over snow and ice

Police in Lincolnshire were urging motorists to drive carefully on Friday after up to 5cm (2in) of snow fell overnight in parts of the county.

Despite air temperatures rising, ground temperatures remained below zero, causing rain to freeze on the roads, creating patches of black ice.

Some schools in Lincolnshire were closed due to the weather.

Daryl Redford, of Lincolnshire County Council, said gritters had worked throughout the night.
