A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a dog died in a fire at a maisonette.

The occupants of about 10 homes were evacuated from the block on the Ermine estate in Lincoln, but none were hurt.

Emergency services were called to Westminster House, in Welton Gardens, at about 17:20 BST on Sunday.

Lincolnshire Police said they arrested a 24-year-old man a short time later and he is helping them with their enquiries.

A woman who was in the maisonette when the fire started managed to escape before emergency services arrived.

Firefighters said the home was severely damaged by flames and smoke and the fire was spreading out of the window to the floor above when they arrived.

Officers are not looking for any other suspects, but they have asked anyone with information to contact them.
