Bishop Grosseteste University College to open digital cinema

A new digital cinema is to open at a Lincoln university in September.

The Venue, at Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln, will show films and also be used for teaching drama and stage theatre productions.

The university has spent more than £75,000 on transforming its Longdales Road campus theatre into the cinema, which will open on 4 September.

Lincoln Film Society, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, has also helped to fund the project.

Surround sound

The cinema, which will show a mix of mainstream and independent films, boasts a new digital projection system, surround sound and fully refurbished seating,

Bev Bamber, from the university, said: "Our new cinema is a tremendously exciting opportunity for us and one which we hope will prove very popular for residents and visitors to Lincoln.

"We want to encourage the local community to make better use of our campus, and investing in this new cinema venue was a way for us to do that while at the same time providing more choice for people who love great films."

Richard Hall, honorary chairman of the film society, said: "Lincoln is really lucky to have two fully fledged cinemas and we can't think of a better way to celebrate our 60th anniversary than by welcoming the creation of The Venue."
