Man's body found in Vernatt's Drain in Spalding

Police are treating the death of a man whose body was found in a Lincolnshire waterway as unexplained.

A dog walker spotted the body in Vernatt's Drain, near the Pinchbeck Road bridge in Spalding, on Sunday.

Police recovered the body from the water after being alerted shortly after 14:00 GMT.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body and police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Det Insp Suzanne Davies said a guard was in place to limit public access to the scene.

"I am appealing to any dog walkers, or members of the public who have walked the footpath adjacent to the drain recently and who may have information to contact us," she said.
