Warning over Rainham tyre warehouse fire

People living near a tyre warehouse in east London were told to keep windows and doors shut as fire crews tackled a large blaze.

Up to 50 firefighters were called to the Lamson Road factory site in Rainham on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire brigade said the blaze, involving a large number of rubber tyres and a diesel tanker, had produced a thick plume of smoke into the area.

The fire was brought under control later that evening.

About 30 people were moved from the site as a precaution.
