A gang member has been jailed for life for murdering an innocent student caught up in a drive-by shooting.

In August 2008 Ryan Bravo, 18, was gunned down as he bought milk in a Costcutters shop in Walworth, south London.

Ashley Bucknor, 21, was one of a gang who opened fire on rivals before fleeing on mopeds.

Bucknor, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to at least 24 years after being found guilty at the Old Bailey.

He had only just been released from prison after stabbing a man.

Judge Gerald Gordon accepted he did not fire the lethal bullet.

But he said: "As the result of being party to events, a young man lost his life, which is an appalling tragedy."

Bucknor was originally jailed for life over the crime at Woolwich Crown Court in September 2009, but a retrial was ordered after an appeal.
