Four bailed over new year double shooting in Croydon

Four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two people were shot in south London.

A 22-year-old woman was found shot in the leg after a row in Wadden New Road, Croydon, at 0440 GMT on 1 January. She is in a stable condition in hospital.

A few minutes later a man aged 18 was shot in the chest during a fight in nearby Church Road. He has now been discharged after treatment.

The four suspects have been given police bail until March.

Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime within London's black community, is leading the inquiry.

Police said the shootings were being linked and appealed for witnesses, stressing anyone who came forward "can be protected and provided with anonymity in a court case".
