Girl, 14, dies after hit-and-run in Croydon

A 14-year-old girl has died a week after she was knocked down by a car in a hit-and-run crash in south London.

She suffered a serious head injury when she was struck by a Renault Clio in Morland Road, Croydon, on 25 February.

The car, with the registration plate T861 JKP, was found burnt out nearly a mile away a short time afterwards.

Police, who have not released the identity of the teenager, said they were still trying to trace the driver of the green vehicle.

The victim was hit at 1910 GMT and was taken to hospital, where she remained critically ill until Friday morning.

The car was abandoned in Davies Close, also in Croydon.

Officers believe the driver was a white man in his 20s, and have urged witnesses to contact them.
