Two men who died in a house fire in east London were killed by smoke inhalation, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

The two men, thought to be aged about 20 and 40, were pronounced dead after being found at the maisonette in Chapman Street, Shadwell, on Monday.

A 52-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

Police say the fire, which destroyed nearly all of the second and third floors of the block, is "suspicious".

London Fire Brigade were called at 0120 GMT and said the flames were under control by about 0252 GMT.

Police are not releasing the names of the deceased because they say all their family members have not yet been traced.
