Two killed and three injured in Croydon car crash

Two people have been killed and another two left with life-threatening injures after a crash in south London.

A white VW Passat and a silver Toyota Avensis collided on Brighton Road, Croydon, at about 0010 BST.

The 54-year old male driver of the VW died at the scene.

A 31-year old female passenger in the Toyota was pronounced dead at hospital. The Toyota driver and another passenger are both critically ill in hospital.

A third passenger is in a stable condition.

The dead people's next-of-kin have been informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
