Children saved from Hendon house fire

Several women and young children have been rescued from a fire at a house in north-west London.

The flames took hold of the detached property in the Hendon area at about 2227 BST on Saturday.

Two women and two children escaped, but another four women and three children were trapped in the house.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued them and they were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

The first floor of the building was left seriously damaged by the flames.

Nobody was seriously injured during the incident.
