Police are hunting a thief who ran over two women, including one who is pregnant, after stealing a car he had gone to view as a potential buyer.

The pregnant victim, 33, had advertised her silver Audi A3 for sale. On 24 May the suspect then inspected it at her home address in Merton.

He then locked himself in the car and drove at the woman and her friend, 54.

The pregnant woman has recovered. But the other woman was seriously injured and is still in a critical condition.

Distinctive scar

She was dragged along the road underneath the car.

Det Ch Inspector Adnan Qureshi said: "This suspect was intent on stealing this vehicle and thought nothing of mowing down two women, one of whom was pregnant.

"A team of detectives is working around the clock to trace this suspect.

"But I would like anyone who may have witnessed the actual incident, anyone who has any knowledge of the location of the person responsible, or the silver Audi that was stolen to contact the police."

The man was black, stocky and about 35. He had a distinctive scar running from the right-hand side of his forehead down his nose.
