West Drayton fire: Warehouse blaze near Heathrow

A fire has badly damaged a warehouse in west London, near Heathrow Airport.

About 60 firefighters were sent to Stockley Road, West Drayton, at 1000 BST on Saturday, and three-quarters of the two-storey building was damaged.

More than 30 people were moved to safety during an evacuation. Those living in the area are advised to keep doors and windows shut.

London Fire Brigade said the fire had been brought under control at 1500 BST but the cause was not known.

Two ambulance crews were also sent to the scene but nobody has been hurt.

The adjacent A408 has been closed to traffic and black smoke could be seen billowing for several hours.

It is the second time in three months that a large fire has broken out at an industrial unit in West Drayton.

In March a blaze caused damage at the Rainbow Industrial Estate, in Trout Road, and an evacuation of nearby homes.
