Man loses sight after Plaistow grocery shop attack

A man has lost the sight in one eye after an "unprovoked attack" in a grocery shop in east London.

The victim was targeted by three men as he browsed in the Food and Wine shop in Barking Road, Plaistow.

He suffered a facial injury and underwent surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital where he was told he had lost the sight in his left eye.

Police said the 48-year-old man was now recovering at home after the attack on 6 September.

Det Con Phil Maunders said: "This was a senseless assault on someone that was simply going about his day to day activity shopping for groceries.

"It resulted in the victim suffering a life-changing injury."

Anyone with information about the attack, which happened at about 22:00 BST, was urged to contact police.
