Pay deal for cleaners ends Eurostar strike threat

Cleaners on the Eurostar service have ended their pay dispute after accepting an deal which they say will see staff earning a minimum rate of £8 an hour.

Last month members of the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union had voted to go on strike over the dispute.

But the RMT said the industrial action had been called off as a deal worth 8% on basic pay had been agreed with cleaners' employer OCS.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said the deal was a "major breakthrough".

The new pay deal comes into effect in the autumn.
