Teenager detained for violent disorder during Tottenham riots

A 19-year-old has been sentenced to 21 months in a young offenders institute after he admitted to taking part in the riots in north London.

Jerome Amankwah, of Griffin Road, Tottenham, pleaded guilty to violent disorder over the disturbances on High Road in Tottenham on 6 August 2011.

Amankwah was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on 26 March.

In February he became the first person to be charged with the offence of "riot", but it was later dropped.

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said the decision was made based on the evidence required to "provide a realistic prospect of conviction".
