A man accused over a siege in an central London office block has been remanded in custody by magistrates.

Michael Green, 48, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, is charged with possession of a weapon, false imprisonment and making a bomb hoax.

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court and was remanded until 24 July.

Tottenham Court Road was closed for several hours on Friday and hundreds of people were asked to leave the area.

Mr Green, 48, of Archer Road, was charged with possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid/gas or electrical incapacitating device.

He is also accused of causing criminal damage and recklessly endangering life.

No bail application was made and he will appear next at Blackfriars Crown Court.
