Schools shut as a burst water main 'affects 35,000 Hounslow homes'

Up to 35,000 homes have been without water and nine schools have closed in west London after a water main burst.

Thames Water said it was working to repair the pipe, which burst at about 08:00 BST. It said it was providing bottled water to some customers.

"We are doing all we can to ensure we put the service right and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause," a spokeswoman for the water firm said.

It has affected Hillingdon, Richmond, Hounslow, Brent and Ealing boroughs.

The following schools in Hounslow have been closed: Alexandra Nursery and Infant; Alexandra Junior; Heston Community; Lampton; Rosary Primary; Springwell Infant; Springwell Juniors; Wellington Primary and Westbrook Primary.

Thames Water said the leak had been "isolated" and that water was being re-routed through the network and once pressure built up it would return to all areas very soon.
