More than 70 firefighters have tackled a warehouse blaze in east London that threatened to spread to neighbouring buildings.

In total 15 fire engines were sent to Hookers Road, off Blackhorse Lane in Walthamstow, at 03:37 BST.

By 12:00 BST, the fire brigade said part of the ground floor of the two-storey building was alight but the fire had been contained.

There are no reports of injuries and the cause of the blaze is unknown.

London Fire Brigade firefighter Nic McCallum, who is at the scene, said: "Our crews have been battling against this fire since the early hours of this morning, trying to get it under control and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

"There have been no evacuations from nearby properties so far but we are asking people in the area to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution because of smoke from the fire."
