London taxi fares to go up by 0.7%

Black taxi fares in London area have risen by 0.7% - adding nine pence to the average fare.

The increase came in on Saturday. Transport for London (TfL) says it is the lowest rise during more than 10 years in which it has licensed taxis.

The board of TfL agreed the average increase in February.

A spokesman for the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association (LTDA) said the price rise provided a "fair deal to the passengers and to the drivers".
