Fifth arrest in Marble Arch hotel hammer attack
A fifth person has been arrested over an attack by a hammer-wielding assailant on three women tourists as they slept in a central London hotel.
The women were bludgeoned after a man entered a room on the seventh floor of the Cumberland Hotel in Marble Arch in the early hours of 6 April.
The 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Three other men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday in Islington.
A woman was also arrested on the same day on suspicion of handling stolen goods. These four are still in custody after warrants of further detention were obtained by police.
The three victims, who are tourists from the United Arab Emirates, are in hospital and one of them is in a critical condition.
The victims were sleeping in the room with three children, who were not harmed, when the attacker entered the unlocked room shortly before 02:00 BST, police say.
