Woman held over 'suspicious' baby death in Morden

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested after a five-month-old baby girl died in south London.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of neglect at a house in Glastonbury Road in Morden at about 07:15 BST.

London Ambulance went to the property after receiving reports of an unresponsive baby.

The paramedics found the baby in cardiac arrest. She was taken to St Helier Hospital in Carshalton, Surrey, but later died.

The death is being treated as suspicious and the woman is being held at a south London police station.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "We know the identity of the child and next of kin have been informed.

"A post-mortem will be held in due course."

Officers from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command unit are investigating the case.
